The 77th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Microscopy

Greeting

The Japanese Society of Microscopy holds the Annual Meeting of The Japanese Society of Microscopy every year as a place to take up the latest topics related to microscopy and present and discuss each other's research results. The 77th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Microscopy in 2021 will be held for three days from June 14th (Monday) to June 16th (Wednesday), 2021 at Tsukuba International Congress Center (Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture). We would like to have a meeting that engineers and researchers from various fields gather with the keyword of microscopes, and they will give fruitful academic presentations beyond the boundaries of specialized fields such as equipment/materials and medicine/biological systems, and even beyond the boundaries of academic societies and industry. We look forward to your active participation.

The theme of this Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Microscopy is "Microscopy Science & Technology in the Age of Digital Transformation". Digital transformation (DX) means "transforming society, industrial structure, and life for the better with ever-evolving advanced digital information technology." DX is supposed to bring innovation to society that transcends existing values and frameworks. In this era of digital transformation, the fusion of advanced digital technologies such as IoT, information science, and big data with microscopy will create and accelerate innovation in microscope science and microscope technology. We set this theme in anticipation of such a new trend of advanced microscopy innovation. The Japanese Society of Microscopy, in collaboration with the executive committee, will solicit a wide range of abstracts, mainly general lecture presentations, and take up multiple topics as a symposium in order to make the Annual Meeting satisfying everyone. We would like you to be informed of the latest research trends and have active discussions.

In addition, in 2021, we are planning an international academic exchange symposium with neighboring countries in Asia in order to promote international research cooperation. We will also hold a tutorial session to provide useful information to young researchers and student members of the company. In addition, as a public interest incorporated association, public lectures and hands-on citizen workshops will be held on June 13 (Sun) in order to convey the fun of microscopes to junior high and high school students and the general public who will lead the next generation.

Tsukuba is surrounded by Mt. Tsukuba, where the gods of Izanagi and Izanami live, to the north, and Kasumigaura, the second largest lake in Japan, to the east. Meanwhile, Tsukuba has produced several Nobel laureates. Research institutes have gathered, and it has grown as an international science and technology city. Today, it is the largest science city in Japan with over 20,000 researchers. In addition, with the opening of the Tsukuba Express, it is directly connected to Akihabara in central Tokyo in 45 minutes, making it very convenient to access by air, rail, highway bus, etc. from Japan and overseas. We sincerely look forward to the participation of many people involved in microscopy, both academia and companies, in this 77th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Microscopy.
